What a week it has been!

Reclaiming Nondescript

Today we use nondescript to mean "dull", "drab," or "lacking in distinctive features. But throughout the 19th Century is had a more interesting meaning "a person or thing that is not easily described, or is of no particular class or kind." Biologists once used it to describe new species that had not yet been identified.

Julia advertised herself as "the wonderful nondescript" the same way Mounds bars advertised themselves as "indescribably delicious."   Of course, you wouldn't do that nowdays. Here's the NGRAM:
